The batteries are "supposed" to last two years, but if did the ATK, BIOS, driver updates, and checked keyboard filters to off. Keyboard delay went away, the backlight came back on and FN keys now work for them, and the touchpad toggle works. I caved and ordered a new battery so I could get the new bios updated and BOOM! ALL the problems were instantly solved.
Well, if you have one of these laptops you will know the battery has charging issues, so I have had my permanently plugged in for awhile now. So with this weird combination I tried updating my bios and the winflash told me I had to have 20% battery to do it. I had a keyboard lockup as well with the backlight issue, typing response was delayed, and my touchpad would not function or toggle.
Open your HP BIOS and go to the Advanced Settings tap.I have an ROG G750 and I had done ALL of the suggestions found online from update ATK, filters off, etc. On some HP laptops, you can go to the BIOS and change this setting. Of course, the only way to tell which state it’s in is to wait and see if the light turns off. When you tap it, it toggles through its three states. You can toggle the state via the keyboard light button. The backlit keyboard on an HP laptop works in three states off, time-out, and always on. If you have a Dell laptop, you even control the time-out duration. On both Dell and HP laptops, you can set your backlit keyboard to always on. If the manufacturer doesn’t have an option to set the backlit keyboard to always on, you are out of luck. It’s up to the device manufacturer to provide it. Windows doesn’t have a built-in option to control the backlit keyboard on a laptop. This has its limitations foremost of which is the make of your laptop. If you find the timeout counterproductive, you can set your backlit keyboard to always on. To turn the light on again, you have to tap any key or tap your touchpad. The light times out usually after 5-10 seconds if you don’t use your keyboard or touchpad.
